Mushroom Extravaganza! Sunday

April 11 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm UTC-4

Learn how to cultivate and use your own medicinal and gourmet mushrooms.
Herbalist Savayda Jarone will team up with mushroom grower Kelly Tattrie to offer this fun and
experiential learning opportunity, in a beautiful setting on the Eastern Shore.
Mushrooms have been a source of food, medicine and magic for thousands of years, around the
globe. The past 50 years of research has brought new discoveries and explanations for their powerful
effects on human health and wellbeing. Why not grow your own – we have an ideal growing climate
for many species of medicinal and edible mushrooms here in Nova Scotia.
Hi my name is Kelly Tattrie, I’ve been working with mushrooms for the past 4 years, successfully
growing 16 different types on various substrates including straw, sawdust, woodchips, coffee grinds
and logs. My mentor was David Boyle, a very well-known Mycologist from Nova Scotia. I am
offering this workshop to provide insight into methods on growing mushrooms on logs and straw, I
will give tips on different methods. I will be providing the log, mushroom spore plugs and tools
required and at the end of the workshop you will take home your own log. I will have some extra
logs and supplies for sale if you decide you want to do some extras, the price will be $25 for each
additional log you do.

Learn how to incorporate medicinal mushrooms into your diet and daily routine, while maximizing
their medicinal value. We will sample and discuss a variety of mushrooms that you can grow and/or
source locally.

Savayda will share practical information gained from her 22 years of clinical practice, and explain
why mushrooms give her confidence in the future of our existence.
