Each of our four distinct seasons bring a multitude of plants for us to enjoy for their beauty and medicine. Herb harvesting is dependent on both seasonal cycles and plant life cycles – their is an optimal time of year, month and day to capture the best that any given herb has to offer. Our needs also shift with the seasons; certain remedies can be incorporated into your lifestyle to prevent illness and to thrive. Let these workshops inspire you.
Approximately 250 wild medicinal plants and trees can be found in Nova Scotia. Some are native, others are well know weeds, some are sensitive and not suitable for harvest, while most are abundantly available for personal use as food and medicine. Savayda’s favorite herbal activity is leading herbs walks for adults and children, to demonstrate the diversity, beauty and wonder that our green landscape provides.
Kids love plants and nature; the outdoors is the perfect classroom for them to explore this innate connection and to discover the wonder of wild medicinal and edible plants and the environments that support them. Savayda offers a popular spring weekend camp and several day camps throughout the summer.
“Lilian had one complaint about the herb walk. ‘how come we can’t go more often?’ I wish you could do this for all the children of the city.”
